Spotlight on Ukraine
This month marks 1 year since Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine, in a flagrant violation of international law, and causing unimaginable suffering. Families were separated as millions of refugees fled their homes. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians, including children, were killed by Russian shelling and other atrocities. Entire cities were destroyed and names like Bucha, Irpin and Mariupol came to symbolise cruelty and horror. This bitter anniversary, however, marks more. It marks a year of heroic resistance by the people of Ukraine.
The EU has been standing firmly united in support of Ukraine. Among several other actions, it has significantly redesigned its relations and dependencies with Russia, it has put in place unprecedented sanctions and it has provided haven and hospitality to millions of refugees.
Earlier this month, the 24th EU–Ukraine Summit took place in Kyiv, bringing together Presidents Michel (European Council), von der Leyen (European Commission), and Zelenskyy (Ukraine) to discuss key issues for Ukraine as it advances on its EU path. In their joint statement, the leaders emphasised that the EU will be at Ukraine’s side ‘for as long as it takes’. A few days later, President Zelenskyy addressed the European Parliament in Brussels. Through his voice, the voices of millions of Ukrainians echoed through the halls of the assembly. And on 15 February, President von der Leyen addressed the European Parliament Plenary on one year of Russia's invasion.

This publication presents the results of a Eurobarometer survey that took place in the first months after the Russian invasion. The survey aimed at examining the attitudes of EU citizens towards the Russian invasion and the respective EU response. Among its key findings is the high level of respondents’ support for the EU economic, military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Implications of the Russian invasion of Ukraine for the European economy PDF
The Russian invasion and ongoing aggression resulted in several packages of serious EU sanctions and various ancillary measures against businesses and individuals in Russia and Belarus. The effect of communication and disinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic PDF
This study analyses how governments, public health experts and other professionals communicated during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact of these communication strategies. The second edition of the European Data Conference on Reference and Semantics, ENDORSE 2023, brings into focus the power of multilingual reference data and the role of semantic technologies in our everyday lives. The conference, organised by the Publications Office of the European Union and Interoperable Europe with the support of the Digital Europe Programme, will take place online in three afternoon sessions from 14 to 16 March 2023 and is now open for registration .
Programme
The programme features over 40 contributions from EU and international experts in multilingual reference data and semantic technologies, and several panel discussions. The sessions are organised in two parallel tracks to give participants an opportunity to choose a topic of their interest. The tracks cover Multilingual reference data, Using reference data and semantics, and Semantic technologies in our everyday lives - tangible impacts and linked data.
